movie update
so aeon flux is going to be made into a movie. that should be pretty cool.

also, firefly is getting made into a movie. it'll be called serenity, after the ship. that's also pretty cool.

these both pale in comparison to this:

an 80 MILLION DOLLAR treatment of the Runelords!!!!!!

holyfuckingshit. i can't fucking wait. they're planning to eventually do the entire thing!

of course not. it's based on the short lived joss whedon space western.

Wheel of Time, damnit... or how about Memory, Sorrow and Thorn. Why don't they have 80 million dollars to make a movie with?

Wheel of Time is just too big, and I can't see anyone doing it justice in less than 5 pictures. Also, it doesn't have an ending at the moment :).

MST doesn't seem like it's all that amenable to movie adaptation.

MST probably would make a boring movie...probably even more boring than lord of the rings..

stone of farewell would be mildly interesting. it has a nice big battle and some intrigue.

to green angel tower, the second paperback would be decent. you would need a little backstory, though, in order to care about miriamele enough to hate her by the end of the saga.

seriously, though, i think they'd have to change them too much for them to be commercially viable. runelords is basically perfect from the getgo.

well, true. BUT.

peter jackson was "director of 'the frighteners' and 'heavenly creatures'" before LOTR. and no matter how much you like the frighteners, it wasn't a mainstream success.

screamers has a cult following, at least.

i liked screamers...but probably only because i knew it was a philip dick story and i had just read it.

i wonder what's up with ender's game...

Personally, I think making Aeon Flux into a movie is a terrible idea. Why don't they do an animated movie instead? Ugh.

I mean, Charlize Theron? Please. Gak.
taumeson From: taumeson Date: March 4th, 2004 07:51 am (UTC) (Link)
i hadn't heard about that.

i looked it up after i read your comment. she's nice and tall, so that's cool, but i'd hate to see her get skinny enough to play this role...she's got a great shape already. feh.

animated movies are tanking lately. they wouldn't want to risk it.

speaking of animation, have you seen the previews for GitS:Innocence or the new Appleseed? Innocence just makes me happy that there's more GitS on its way, but Appleseed...man, that blew me away. it's actually computer animated, but using cel shading to make it look like a blend between traditional and computer animation.

but yeah, any animation marketted in america as non-kid fare isn't going to make a ton of money. that's why we gotta import it :(

I don't know what GitS stands for.

I just think that Aeon Flux is so exaggerated and ridiculous, that any live-action adaptation wouldn't do it justice.

Also, I think I read that MTV owns the rights, and therefore Peter Chung (right, Chung, is that right?) wouldn't be involved at all. But I may have read that on a BBS, so I'm not sure as to the accuracy of that statement.

GitS = Ghost in the Shell

yeah, apparently peter chung isn't involved...the director of "Girlfight" is the major driving force behind this.

mtv films is making it, so i think you're spot on about the rights issue.

charlize theron=hott
littlewashu From: littlewashu Date: March 4th, 2004 08:05 am (UTC) (Link)
I don't personally find her to be all that interesting looking (I'm not a big fan of blondes), but I realize that a lot of people find her hot -- but Aeon Flux-y? I dunno, man . . . she's not . . . severe looking enough, or something.
swolfe From: swolfe Date: March 4th, 2004 08:07 am (UTC) (Link)
hmm, i agree...how about Milla Jovovich?
littlewashu From: littlewashu Date: March 4th, 2004 08:51 am (UTC) (Link)
Sure! We already know what she looks like wearing weird futuristic clothes with odd cut-outs.

Carrie-Ann Moss, maybe, though I sort of have no idea of her acting abilities. But she could look the part. Maybe even Angelina Jolie, she looked all right in the commercials for the Tomb Raider movies (I never saw the things themselves).

I dunno, maybe seeing Charlize Theron with the hair would change my mind. She just seems to have features that are too . . . petite, or something. Her nose is too small.
