you know what's funny? you make a mistake in a payroll program, and… - don't let the bastards grind you down.

you know what's funny? you make a mistake in a payroll program, and some guy gets screwed by 2 bucks, they let you know right away.

but if you double the overtime calculations because of an unused routine that suddenly gets used after you have to start doing calculations you reserved for salaried folks on the unsalaried folks, well, nobody tells you and it's up to a friend to notice something wrong with a paystub he notices in the trash.

if we had a QA department this never would have happened. but since we don't, a bug in my program has been fucking things up since before halloween.

so...will those people who received extra pay have their checks reduced by that amount?

when i worked at alcatel and was going from non-exempt to exempt i received 2 paychecks for one pay cycle...I knew if was messed up so i called payroll. they researched and said that 6 other people had also received duplicate paychecks. they told me not to deposit it and that they would put a stop payment on it. I just figured that they'd catch it one day and want their money back and it was better to to give it back before i really thought of it as mine.

now that i think back...the bank was always screwing up my deposits with extra 0's too...of course they'd catch that kinda thing. but it's still weird.

damn, if i wasn't so honest I'd be rich by now. heh.

money is such a bitch.

it's up to the individual agencies we work with. they can let it slide if it was only like 30 bucks...but i know a few people who got hundreds of extra dollars. those people are probably screwed like crazy. but it's hourly...they're used to varying paychecks...i'm suprised nobody noticed an extra 150 bucks, though.

payroll: another reason to hate Mondays

I feel yer pain. When I calculate everyone's hours and add up everyone's vacation and holiday and overtime hours, I sit there just griiinding my teeth. 'Cause I just know one of these days something's going to screw up the payroll and I'm going to get the blame.

Re: payroll: another reason to hate Mondays

yeah, but that's isolated. here we are with an procedural error that's been going on for months. we're talking thousands of dollars, here. gah.

the worst is that they're constantly revising how they want payroll to work. i'm constantly this or that, and my halloween change was a huge change, so my original design and plan is fucked all to hell. serves them right, but i hate looking like an ass.

Man, no one ever audits payroll? That's kind of strange. I would have thought someone in accounting or HR would occasionally check stuff like that.
