i'm thinking about putting an ad in the paper for a roommate. it'd go something like this:

single father of a beautiful baby girl seeks safe female roommate. rent is XXX, or negotiable if you'd like to clean house for part of your rent.

i don't know how to put it, and i need suggestions. also, girls, would you answer an ad like that?

you might drop the negotiable part and just mention that when someone calls.

and...also, you'd be better off keeping the rent the same and paying a professional the $80/mo or whatever to come in and clean. IMHO.

it's a lot more than 80/mo apparently...and i'd get a lot more out of somebody invested in keeping up with the dishes and stuff, and who'd be there everyday.

i doubt it. what's more likely is that you'll get someone who says they'll keep up with it, then become a slacker. trust me, i've had more experience with roommates than anyone i know :)

it shouldn't cost any more than $40 every two weeks to have someone come in and clean an apartment. it cost me $45 for a 2200 sq ft house.

can i ask why it needs to be a female? does it really matter?

hedging my bet on safety, you know? considering the populace around here, i wouldn't want to have a local guy around.

plus, i'm almost more interested in the cleaning aspect, and i wouldn't trust that to a guy.

yeah, Nathaniel, I'm grossed out.
I can't believe you said that.

You could try:

Female roommate wanted to share 2BR apartment (or whatever it is) with single parent and child. Rent is XXX.

or:

Female roommate wanted to share 2BR apartment with family.

Then you can give the details over the phone. I'd check out an ad like this. Are you going to ask for a background check on any prospective roommates?

Oh, and if the roommate will have her own bedroom/bathroom, that might be a good selling point.

The "single father of a beautiful baby girl" part sounds strange.

Have you considered restricting your search by age rather than gender? I would guess a 35-year-old of either gender is safer than a 20-year-old girl, and probably a better housekeeper.

What do you mean by "rent is XXX?" Is she going to have to do porno?

*shrug*

single parent and child seek roommate in 3 bedroom home. prospective roommates would have own bedroom and bathroom, access to laundry, kitchen and living room facilities, as well as space in garage. rent $blah (electric and water included).

nothing specific about looking for women...you can just weed out the men when you take their calls...
