The then dauphin, or heir to the throne, was seven when he was jailed in 1792 along with the rest of the royal family in the turbulent period after the French Revolution, and died of tuberculosis in 1795.

so...in a nasty midevil jail from 7 until you died at 10, with no parents or anything. now THAT is fucking wrong.

uh, the late 1700s weren't medieval.

but yes, just about everything surrounding the french revolution is fucked up. this is why i love it so.

not only is medieval an adjective along with a time period (2: as if belonging to the Middle Ages; old-fashioned and unenlightened; "a medieval attitude toward dating" ) but the bastille, for instance, dated from 1382...making it a decidedly medieval prison. one can assume that there were other prisons and donjon as old.
